Gidding’s Plaza – Lombard Lamp, 8 May 2020
Polaroid OneStep 2 / Color i-Type Film
The Lincoln Square neighborhood is one of Chicago’s biggest German neighborhoods and tucked away in a corner of Giddings Plaza is a Lombard Lamp, which is an exact replica of ones found on the Lombard Bridge in Hamburg Germany since 1869. It was donated to Chicago as an act of friendship by the city of Hamburg in 1979.
To me this serves as a reminder that while the world will change over time, our influence can endure for centuries.
