Uptown’s Black Lives Matter Protest, 1 June 2020

Uptown, the neighborhood immediately to the east of us that we sit on the border of, is one of Chicago’s most diverse neighborhoods, and was the site of one of the city’s largest Black Lives Matter protests yet. It has also been at the center of some of the most agressive genetrification in the city in recent years (something that is a topic for another day.) I biked over to join the crowd, observe, and report. It went on for a very long time and remained peaceful the entire time I was there to witness it. I broke off around 9pm when the curfew set in as it marched through Wrigleyville.
