Wrigleyville’s landscape continues to change as, despite everything else going on, the construction never stops. The CTA’s Red and Purple Modernization project, aka ‘RPM’ marches on, leveling buildings and building brutalist structure, as we march towards a faster, more efficient mass transit system. One that was designed without a pandemic in mind and will have to adjust to a changing world. A strange silver lining to this all is that, with ridership down, the construction disruptions will impact fewer people today than it would have under regular times.
As someone who explores the city daily, I can confidently say that those who don’t will be surprised by how much the city has changed when they return to it.
